Overview

Radius Track provided the light gauge steel sub-framing as a complete kit of Parts for the pool's roof canopies and columns, designed for easy installation by an inexperienced subcontractor on a tight schedule:

  • Simple kit of Parts approach for field installation with coordinated structural steel framing
  • Engineered clip locator jigs, layout points, and CNC cut plywood for doubly curved eyebrows
  • Sequenced shipments with total station layout points and onsite field assistance
  • [We need to say something about the project as a Fully Kitted – ready to install project – all curved and straight materials, clips, tools and fasteners]

Problem & Approach

The client hired Radius Track to design, fabricate, and ship the sub-framing system quickly and efficiently to support roof, ceiling, and column finishes defined by the architect. The team coordinated the architect's approved surface model and desired finish shape with the structural steel model to achieve a simple to erect engineered system.

Framing Parts and connections solutions needed to meet design criteria for a challenging site located on an island off an island in the Bahamas. Clip locations were provided to the structural steel fabricator to simplify field installation. The team efficiently scheduled fabrication and packing meeting project schedule and installation sequencing demands for 10,663 Parts across six shipments.

Challenges included proceeding quickly and efficiently to meet approvals schedule with multiple parties. This international project needed to meet a tight schedule including six separate just-in-time shipments with limited laydown areas. Only one field installer spoke English, making communication slower than usual.

“My team has never worked with LGS before as we typically install steel structures.  The Radius Track team walked us through the first Parts and the first few days and then we were off to the races. The layout and logic of the installation was easy to follow and the labelling and packing make this much easier than expected." – Hasan-Nur Adiguzel - Install foreman.

Solution & Results

Radius Track shipped a fully kitted, ready-to-install stick system sequenced per structural bay to meet the aggressive project schedule.

Key technical achievements included:

  • Fabricated and delivered 10,663 Parts across six coordinated just-in-time shipments
  • Designed sheet metal labeled clip locator jigs simplifying connections to structural steel
  • Provided CNC cut to shape plywood for doubly curved eyebrow locations
  • Delivered total station layout points and engineering drawings for field coordination
  • Performed onsite field assistance with in-situ mockup enabling non-English speaking crew to grasp install logic

The labeled system and coordinated approach enabled the inexperienced installation team to work efficiently despite language barriers and logistical challenges.
