Metal framing has undergone a quiet revolution. Once viewed as a basic installation, limited primarily to non-structural interior partitions, it has become a pivotal component of comprehensive building systems.

Designed by design-build team AECOM Tishman and Gensler, the new Terminal One is set to replace former Terminals 2 and 3 at John F Kennedy Airport (JFK) in Queens and will be the largest terminal at the airport at 2.6 million square feet (241, 550 square meters), with 23 gates.

Like the building, the forum is the shape of the Ford logo: an oval. “You won’t see the logo anywhere, but you’re literally inside the Ford oval,” Kolstad says. “The space tells the company’s story in a subtle, sophisticated way.”
