Q&A

PRE-CURVED COMPONENTS
What are :: RADIUS TRACK®
PRE-CURVED COMPONENTS ::
?
Pre-curved components are made
with a patented forming process
that creates bends at regular
intervals along the steel track or
studs. The series of bends
precisely creates the specified
radius.

Does the Radius Track process
cut or slice the track/stud?

No, the patented forming process
does not cut or slice the member. Instead, it forms a bend in the
track/stud. The bend area is
uniform and free of burrs or
abrasions.

Does the track need to be
reinforced with plywood?

No. The pre-curved form is a rigid, curved shape. Because of the
stiffness, the track or stud installs
in less time and requires fewer fasteners.

How does the Radius Track
pre-curved process change the track/stud to create the radius?

The track/stud is bent along the
piece at regular intervals. The bend
is across the web and along the
inside flange of the track or stud.

What shapes can you make?
We can form any curve shape,
including regular arcs, ellipses, polylines and splines. If the curve
you need has a radius or a
diameter, it is an arc. If the plan
or layout shows a grid of points to locate the shape, it is probably an ellipse or a spline. Polylines are
best described as "connecting a
series of dots" with a curved line.

In addition to bending, we also
create curved shapes by roll
forming and crimp forming,
depending on the end use of the
profile.

Can you make domes?
Radius Track provides complete structural :: DOME :: framing kits
that are accurate and easy to install.
For larger domes we offer cold-
formed infill components used
with structural steel framing.
To find out more about Radius
Track domes, download the PDF
of our :: DOMES PACKET ::.

How do I order Radius Track
pre-curved components or
receive a quotation for my project?

Visit the :: HOW TO ORDER ::
area of this website to learn more
about the three options. You can
use our handy on-line :: REQUEST FOR QUOTATION :: form. If you
prefer, you can :: DOWNLOAD ::
the same form as a text file, enter
the information, and fax or e-mail it
to Radius Track. Or you can call
Radius Track directly. We respond
to a Request for Quotation within
24 hours, Monday through Friday.

How do I order a particular radius, when the dimension is not clearly shown?
We can determine the radius of a
curve if you tell us the distance
between the ends of the curve,
and the height of the curve.

We can also determine the value
if you E-mail a .dwg or .dxf file to us.

The architect or designer should
also be able to give you the radius
or diameter of the curve.

Can you prefabricate assemblies
for me?

Yes. In addition to forming the
profiles, we can cut the ends of the pieces to specific lengths and
angles. As an additional service,
we can also pre-assemble the
profiles, then take it apart and ship
it to you. All of the pieces are marked
for easy assembly in the field, thus minimizing the field labor required.
This service is gaining popularity
for more complicated shapes such
as domes and groin vaults.

How easy is it to install the
curved track/stud?

Installation is quick and easy.
The curved track/stud arrives at
the job site, ready for immediate installation. Or you can store the members for future jobs.

There are metal shapes on my
plan, and I don't know where to
get them. Can you help?

Yes. We have built an extensive
network of the companies that
provide various pieces such as
trims and channels. We can also
make many special profiles, as
well as shearing and laser-cutting
custom pieces for your job.

READY PRODUCTS
What are :: READY PRODUCTS ::?
Ready-Track, Ready-Arch and
Ready-Angle are hand-formable
steel framing components that
are sold in straight sections.
Each section has a series of indentations that makes it easy
to bend the Ready Product to any shape. Because the Ready Product holds its shape once formed, it installs rapidly and greatly reduces labor costs. Ready Products are ideal for forming curves right on the job site.

How do Ready Products hold
their shape?

Each section is a single piece of
true 20-gauge steel. No strapping
or cutting is required. Ready-Track
can be screwed on one side for
extra stability, while Ready-Arch
and Ready-Angle require no
screws at all.

What kind of curves can I build
with Ready Products?

You can use Ready Products to form any curve shape, including regular arcs, ellipses, S-bends, spirals, sweeps or any free-form shape.

What kind of studs can I attach
to Ready Products?

You can attach either wood or
steel studs to Ready Products.

Do Ready Products bend both
ways?

Ready Products bend both ways
and easily form challenging
compound curves.

How can I make an S-curve that requires framing screws?
Screws can be inserted into one
side of a Ready-Track section.
To make an S-curve, just combine
a series of Ready-Track sections.

What lengths and sizes do
Ready-Products come in?

Ready Products come in convenient
8 foot or 10 foot sections, in a
variety of standard sizes.

Where can I get Ready Products?
Contact your local drywall supply distributor for Ready Product pricing and availability. Since Ready
Products are stocked at your local distributor, there is no lead time,
and you can easily adapt to
changing variables. Just pick the
width you need and on the job site
quickly form the radius required.

TRACK BENDER
What is a :: TRACK BENDER :: ?
The Track Bender from Radius
Track® is a portable, on-the-
job-site tool that allows you to
create curved studs and track
runners easily, accurately and conveniently. The Track Bender
can form all standard stud and track profiles up to 20-gauge thick and 6 inches wide – without requiring you to cut or slit the metal.

Model S100 will bend 2-1/2" and
3-5/8" material, and a flange up to
1-7/8".

Model S150 will bend 2-1/2", 3-5/8"
and 6" material, and a flange up to
1-7/8".

Model D150 will bend 3-5/8" and
6" material and a flange up to 3",
in basic Configuration. There is
also an optional accessory that
allows the tool to bend 2-1/2"
material. The installation of the accessory kit involves interchanging the tool die blocks, which takes
about 5 minutes.

Does the Track Bender cut or
slice the track/stud?

No. The Track Bender does not
cut or slice the member. The tooling
of the Track Bender forms a bend
in the track/stud. The bend areas
are uniform and free of burrs or abrasions.

Does the track need to be
reinforced with plywood?

No. The pre-curved form is a rigid, curved shape. Because of the
stiffness, the track or stud installs
in less time and requires fewer fasteners.

How does the Track Bender
change the track/stud to create
the radius?

Using the Track Bender, you will
create bends along the piece at
regular intervals. The bend will be across the web and along the
inside flange of the track or stud.

How do I know when to make
the next bend?

During the bending cycle the
Track Bender will make a small
mark on the track/stud, indicating where the next bend should go.
Then you simply advance the
track/stud through the tool to the
designated alignment point.
While putting a bend at this
new location, the tool makes the
next bend mark.

How far apart are the bends?
The crimps can be made in
intervals of 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 inches, depending on the tightness of the radius to be matched and the
spacing of the studs in the final
wall or ceiling assembly.

How does one set the Track
Bender to create a particular
radius?

In your Track Bender kit you will
receive a series of graphs. Along
the bottom scale of these graphs
are the values of the radii to be bent. Along the vertical scale are the
degree settings for setting the
tool. Curve lines on the graph
indicate the degree setting
required for any radius. Each
curve line is used for a particular
bend spacing (refer to question
above). You simply find the radius
you need along the bottom scale,
then move up from this radius
until you intersect the curved line
that represents your chosen
spacing between indentations.
Next, follow the intersection point horizontally to the left side of the
graph. The number here will
represent the degree setting on
the Track Bender degree scale.
Set the indicator on the degree
scale, and you are ready to bend.

How will I know when to stop
applying pressure to the handle?

You will hear a 'clicking' sound
from the tools torque indicator.
The click indicates that you have completed the bend cycle and
are ready to make your next bend.

How easy is it to install the
curved track/stud?

Once you create the curved track
or stud with the Track Bender,
there is nothing further to be done
to it. Installation is quick and easy.
The curved track/stud is ready for immediate installation, or can be
stored for future jobs.

What if the project calls for
track/stud heavier than 20-gauge?
